c The Kings of Edom and the Chiefs of Esau (36:31-37:1)
(1-5) These are the toledoth of Esau, who is Edom. Esau has taken two wives of Canaan:
Adah, daughter of Elon the Hittite, who bears Eliphaz;
Aholibamah, daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon the Hivite, who bears Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah; and,
Bashemath, daughter of Ishmael, sister of Nebajoth, who bears Reuel.
These are Esau’s sons who are born to him in the land of Canaan.
Earlier, in Genesis 26:34, Bashemath (Adah) was the daughter of Elon. Judith (Aholibamah) was the daughter of Beeri.
(6-8) Esau takes his family, household, and animals, and goes into the country from Jacob, because they were both blessed for the land to sustain them both. Esau, who is Edom dwells in mount Seir.
(9-19) These are the toledoth of Esau, father of Edom in mount Seir. These are his sons:
Eliphaz, son of Adah. The sons of Eliphaz are Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. However, the concubine of Eliphaz, bears Amalek.
Reuel, son of Bashemath. The sons of Reuel are Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah are sons of Aholibamah.
These are chiefs of the sons of Esau:
Sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz, Korah, and Amalek.
Sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
Sons of Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.
(20-30) These are the sons of Seir the Horite who are the inhabitants of the land and chiefs:
Lotan: Hori and Heman; and Lotan’s sister is Timna.
Shobal: Alvan and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
Zibeon: Ajah and Anah. Anah found the mules in the wilderness, when feeding the asses of his father.
Anah: Dishon, and Aholibam daughter of Anah.
Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.
Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.
Dishan: Uz and Aran
These are the chiefs of the Horite in reference to their chiefs in the land of Seir.
Who was Timna? Do you see the connection of Aholibam, daughter of Anah? She was the daughter who married Esau.
(31-1) These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before the reigning of a king over the sons of Israel.
Bela, son of Beor, from the city of Dinhabah
Jobab, son of Zerah, from Bozrah
Husham from the land of the Temani
Hadad, son of Bedad, and who smites Midian in the field of Moab, from Avith
Samlah from Masrekah
Saul from Rehoboth of the River;
Baalhanan, son of Achbor
Hadar from Pau, who wife is Mehetabel, daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab.
These are the names of the chiefs of Esau: Timnah, Alvah, Jetheth, Aholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel, Iram.
Jacob dwells in the land of his father’s sojourning in the land of Canaan.
